I spent some time this weekend on a very special shoot.

Caleb is my nephew and a favorite of Julia’s (OK – truth be told, she has a lot of favorites!). He and his girlfriend, Morgan, are finishing up their senior year and they wanted me to do their senior pictures; so we hopped in the car on Friday and drove down to Dayton.

Caleb is weighing his options between civil and electrical engineering (hopefully at University of Cincinnati) and Morgan looks forward to the neurology track at Ohio State. Both are frightfully accomplished and in the hunt for valedictorian status in their class; and Caleb has gone from varsity baseball to powerlifting!

Dayton is a great city for a photo shoot – especially with the wide choice of locations. There is a marvelous Metropark and that was our first stop. We got out early and took advantage of the morning light…

And from there – a 20 minute drive away – were some of the most fantastic (and nearly deserted) urban backdrops, clearly rivaling those of Detroit. And even better, they were a heck of a lot more accessible! There was no way we could take advantage of all of them, but we certainly made the best of the time we had.

So to my fellow photographer friends, if you get a chance to do a shoot in Dayton – take it!
