After the winter months of heart surgery and recovery for my daughter Julia (see the story here), May was a great time to re-integrate and get the creative juices flowing again. This post, and a few that will follow, will get you (and me!) back up to speed on what I’ve been working on.

It’s always good to start small – I’ll let you know when I take that advice. My first gig back from the abyss was a shot of some of the most disorganized and fun-loving guys I’ve ever known. These were the pastors that are at the helm of my church, and I was taking their picture for the annual report. To get all of them together in one place requires one step under Divine intervention, so I had them for fifteen minutes – no more.

The Communications Team and I scouted out the location for over an hour the day before, literally meeting at the same time of day so that we would know where the sunlight would be in the church’s lobby. Nothing was left to chance – I even put a note on the furniture for it not to be moved overnight. This is obviously a pretty spirited group of guys; but because of the preparation we did the day before, we were able to use the entire time for them to goof off and have fun while I got the shot.

A friend called later on that week and asked for a quick headshot for her company’s website. It was a quick turnaround, so I went over to her condo and changed her livingroom into a makeshift studio. Elizabeth was great!

I also met Brandon – a young man looking at a bright future after high school. He loves working with kids with special needs and dreams of a career in the Marines. He wanted his senior pictures to be a little edgier, so we spent some time in a more urban setting.
